1. Make one-crust or no-crust pies rather than two-crust pies.
2. Use 2 egg whites instead of 1 whole egg or decrease the total number of eggs.
1 Whole Egg= 75 Calories, 2 Egg Whites = 50 Calories (total)
3. Use reduced calorie margarine instead of margarine or butter.
1 Tablespoon Margarine/Butter = 100 Calories, 1 Tablespoon Reduced Calorie Margarine = 50 Calories
4. Using artificial sweeteners is often not a good idea - it may leave an unfavorable aftertaste. Try adding, almond cinnamon or vanilla extract to enhance the impression of sweetness or gradually decrease the amount of sugar from your regular recipes to get used to the taste. ![]()
5. Replace half of shortening, butter or oil with mashed bananas, applesauce, plum or prune puree. You may also need to reduce baking time by a quarter when doing so.
6. Go for half of the nuts called for in the recipe.
7. Use non-stick sprays to grease the pans.
8. Substitute Dried Fruits & Raisins for Chocolate Chips.
